Supervisor Andy Kunasek comes through again - New River Kiwanis Club

Andy Kunasek, Maricopa County Supervisor District 3, has come through again for his constituents in New River, Desert Hills and Anthem.

 

Back in the 1980s the elected County Board decided to distance itself from maintaining small municipal and neighborhood parks and playgrounds. The New River Kiwanis, a not for profit 501c3 organization, approached the county and volunteered to maintain a community park. What is now known as the New River Kiwanis Park has been expanded and developed over the years to include a children’s playground, picnic grove, ball courts, public washroom facilities, the Larkin Memorial Riding Arena, and a senior citizen center. Several months ago, one of the two water storage tanks sprang several leaks and the damage was found to be irreparable. This put an unbearable burden on water management for the park.

 

 

During one of the numerous public Town Hall Meetings that are sponsored by Supervisor Kunasek, so that he may stay in touch with his constituents, one of the Kiwanis officers approached him and asked how he would feel about finding some funds to buy a new water tank for the park.

 

 

Within days Mr. Kunasek had set up a meeting with other county staff and helped find the funds. He also prompted the county staff to fast track the project as far as permits and fees were concerned. The new tank is installed, connected and fully operational.

 

 

On Saturday, November 3, the New River Kiwanis and local equestrians will hold their annual Equestrian Poker Ride and Fund Raiser. Supervisor Kunasek has been invited to join them as “Honorary Trail Boss” to receive the gratitude and thanks from his New River friends and constituents first hand.
